Description
This is the pocket gopher who I let co-exist with my vegetables in my garden. This year we did not plant a garden. However, many volunteer foods came back which I had flower instead. Walmer made a tunnel under the Romaine lettuce. He remembered where the beets were and checked them out with disappointment. He has pulled a few plants down into his tunnel. I named him Walmer for my love of the Walmer Castle. Also, he lived among my walls. He hit the wall with his digging and came up vertical and left a remnant of gravel about. That year he was investigating the boundaries of the garden. As I became more aware of him, I became more observant of his signs. I no longer took little mounds or piles of dirt as accidents, but indicators he had been by. He is very shy and a privilege to watch.
