Elna Brodie Niccolls grew up around Nesbitt, then moved to the North Hill above Brandon, and then moved into Brandon. Her pasttime was drawing. I have restored her image which was drawing on a piece of cardboard and cut out with a scalpel. Then, I prepared her art in a format for printing. Elna and I talked about the modernization of pet care and the pet industry. In her days, the dog ate what the family ate. They would eat the scraps from the table. In Elna's life story, her mom would cut the skins off the potatoe with a knife and form perfect S's which she threw each time into the air and the dog would catch it and eat it. They would walk 4 miles into town. The dog would often go with the children when they went alone, but often she would be sent home because it was a bit far for the dog. The dog went with the family and would sit outside the general store where the children bought candy. The store had 2 doors. Donna L. Munro is the owner of PWL. She is a lover of family heritage and value, having focused her life strengths on studying Literature and Science for her younger life. She has found her roots and family meaning within Scottish and English culture. The start of the collection is focused on releasing family art to print. The first artist Donna has profiled is her great-great-grandfather James Wharton, who was one of the first of the family pioneers to settle in Manitoba just as its communities opened up for settlement. Unfortunately, James Wharton spent most of his time working to get a nicer home for his wife, and did not have time to return to art when he came to the prairies.
