Description
This is my grandmother Elna with one of her children in a 1939 model baby carriage I recently saw in the Vancouver Museum. Having compared the image with an image of the one in the Vancouver Museum, this carriage is different. The museum model was full sided and this has a deck in the front for the legs. Elna said she had the carriage we saw at the museum. It is possible she had both or used both. Babies of the day had little uniforms mimicking the outfits their daddies wore. Elna was alone with her son. Her husband had been transferred East. She had travelled on the train to get home. Other military men helped her with her bags and with transferring the carriage about in the train, because they recognized her as a military wife. She had recently bought a teddy bear to soothe and entertain her child, but she found that it did not work as well as she had hoped. She ended up using her classical records to soothe the child, to calm him and put him to sleep. This shot was taken in Brandon.
