Elna Brodie Niccolls created this image. She grew up in Nesbitt, then on the North Hill above Brandon, and then in Brandon. She was born in 1918. Now, she is 92. She loved to draw. I am her granddaughter. I am colorizing, enhancing, and preparing her art for print.
Sometimes, the medium here is hard to choose. My grandmother made a pencil drawing on manilla art paper. It was hatched a bit by time. I scanned it, or shot an image of it. I don't remember. Then, I removed paper stains, flaws. And after the image was right, I sized the image to print, and began art coloring using software. Seeing it done gave me great satisfaction. It reminded me of my family embroidering. My family would trace these things onto pillows, and then embroider them.
Donna L. Munro is the owner of PWL. She is a lover of family heritage and value, having focused her life strengths on studying Literature and Science for her younger life. She has found her roots and family meaning within Scottish and English culture. The start of the collection is focused on releasing family art to print. The first artist Donna has profiled is her great-great-grandfather James Wharton, who was one of the first of the family pioneers to settle in Manitoba just as its communities opened up for settlement. Unfortunately, James Wharton spent most of his time working to get a nicer home for his wife, and did not have time to return to art when he came to the prairies.
