This is Elna's garden photo made over as a painting. The base of her bird bath was a recycled antique chimney which she painted to match the bowl she put on top. This photo has been digitally painted. What about this picture? I believe pictures carry cultural elements that take a teller to transmit. It was a custom she and her sisters and others around her at the time to buy garden ornaments. These, including a deer and fawn, were integrated into her yard design. Elna had a supportive husband. The two of them worked on the yard as a hobby. Elna participated in a local Regina custom of a parade of gardens where locals would come and tour people's yards to see their garden. This was a competition and the winner would win a prize and be recognized in a community paper. Elna won first or second place several years in a row. Elna has a few pictures of different interpretations of her yard design.

Donna L. Munro is the owner of PWL. She is a lover of family heritage and value, having focused her life strengths on studying Literature and Science for her younger life. She has found her roots and family meaning within Scottish and English culture. The start of the collection is focused on releasing family art to print. The first artist Donna has profiled is her great-great-grandfather James Wharton, who was one of the first of the family pioneers to settle in Manitoba just as its communities opened up for settlement. Unfortunately, James Wharton spent most of his time working to get a nicer home for his wife, and did not have time to return to art when he came to the prairies.
